Turning the Corner

Peter Beinhart at the National Review sees some corner turning going on too. He suggests that the last time a political party was able to pretend that America’s national security interests were exactly the same as the ruling party’s interests and, conversely, those opposed to the ruling party were aligned with America’s enemies the eventual savior was an alliance between the military leadership and the Eisenhower.
This time the president is on the wrong side of the argument and it is up to a handful of prominent senators to pull us back from the brink.
In fact, the McCain-Graham-Warner-Powell rebellion may herald nothing less than the end of the war on terrorism as Bush defines it.
Let’s hope.
